How did Littler's come about?
Founded in January 2004 by David Hayes. Trained in top Italian factories, then designing in Italy and Paris before working in a Parisian Haute Couture House. From these experiences, he learnt from the passion and enthusiasm of some of the industries finest in their fields. It is the passion, soul and pleasure of those he has been lucky enough to work with which we aim to incorporate in every Littler's item. From the enthusiasts who dedicate their life to developing yarn and the way it is spun, to the way a sleeve is set into a jacket. Littler's produce products for our generation that are worthy of this passion and enthusiasm.
We hope to give you great pleasure from each Littler's product you own.
So what is Littler's ?
© Copyright 2004-11 Littler's Design Limited. All Rights Reserved.Littler's is an independent design company born out of a passion for design and the way things are produced, from the raw material to the craft and skills used in producing each product. Specializing in knitwear, from the most luxurious modern cashmere to fine cotton jersey, each product we offer you will have been thoroughly considered and be uniquely Littler's.
Each Littler's item is created and developed in our studio and produced in factories for Littler's where skills and knowledge have been passed down through the generations, in a particular region, in both the UK and Europe, that specialize in the particular craft.
We aim to offer products that you will feel comfortable and at ease with for many years to come, knowing that what you own is that little bit special. Modern, crafted design rather than fashion. We hope you share the same pride in wearing a Littler's item as we have in creating them.
What's so different about a Littler's sweater or scarf?
First off, we have designed it. This means that the item you buy has been completely considered by Littler's.
Take the Original Littler's cashmere striped sweater from 2004 Collection, the modern narrow stripes are balanced through out the sweater, this is unique and come about through development in our studio/workshop in 2003 there are details with in it that the wearer is conscious of, it is really a blend of craft and design. A great sweater or a great scarf, with a human touch, you know when you have an original.
The TURPIN scarf also created in 2003 as part of the 2004 Collection is a knitted cashmere neck scarf that is uniquely Littler's. We produce a very small number of each product per season. The Cashmere range is all numbered.
Each style is timeless, rolling over and being developed from season to season.
I can get a Cashmere sweater in the Supermarket what's the difference?
There are a lot of differences.
If we start with the materials, you can get various different qualities of Cashmere, this goes back to the goat, as the question refers to a super market, cashmere is the hair of a goat and rather like other things you might buy from the meat counter, the life that the goat has had reflects on the quality of the cashmere. The best quality comes from areas like Mongolia, and Central Asia where the goats roam freely, active and resistant to lowest temperatures. In these very cold conditions the goats grow long coats, to keep warm, the longest hair, rather like ours comes from the chin and under the legs. Like us in other respects if the goats have eaten well and exercised their hair will be in better condition. The most highly valued and sort after is the smooth, soft, almost silky under hair, the male producing more of this duvet than the female.
Having said that, if you buy something that feels very soft it does not always mean that it is good quality and will last. The softness of the touch depends partly on the tightness that the fibers are spun. If the fibers are short and spun loosely, as in a cheaper product the touch will feel soft but will not last, going bobbly, wearing out quickly.
There are many other reasons, development of design, quality of manufacture, materials and the number produced to name but a few.
What can we buy?

Or ask for Littler's in the worlds finest stores, if it is not currently available ask them to get in touch.
How should I look after it?
That's a good question as we have been talking about the Cashmere Collection let's continue as this is the most sensitive. Rather like a good pair of shoes, which if looked after well can last a lifetime and more. It is best to rotate and not wear the product every day, we would recommend storing the item in the packaging provided (more environmentally friendly, than throwing it away) not on a hanger. The best way to wash as recommended by the international wool secretariat is to gently wash by hand in warm water with a non-detergent such as 'Woolite' or a similar product. It can also be dry cleaned. Always check the wash care label on the item
If looked after well this should be something that can be passed on to future generations.
Good design lasts.
